The idea of perfection is a vivid illusion about a clouded perspective of the view that is observed in the present moment. There is no perfection as there is no way to control someone else. The idea of understanding suffering is based on the concept of impermanence but grounded on the bond between our own mind and everything that evolves our associated live vessel. We cannot change the live vessel during our lifepath, which implies we have to defend it by enhancing the power of the mind to turn our immune system very strong. Life in society goes in the same direction. The moment we get settled on a given location like the statue we can see in the picture, either we defend ourselves against external threats or we leave everything behind, including what is attached to the place. The choice is always the one that is required to support life itself.

History has the power to teach us some important details about the impermanence of the universe, and the correlation between different domains that have similar behaviours. We can compare ourselves easily with an independent territory, i.e. an established self-governed country. There is an army to defend the territory of the country as there is the immune system ready to defend our live vessel. The moment an unauthorised element enters the territory of a country, its army makes the recognition to see if it imposes a threat to the autonomy of the territory, as our immune system starts to be aware of something entering our body. Self-defence maneuvers begin the moment a threat is identified, which involves keeping the territory safe with little or no casualties, as our immune system tries to stop a threat with little or no side-effects to our own live vessel. We can do the same comparison with our privacy or anything related to the self, under our control and cultivation.

We defend ourselves against hatred by cultivating love, which does not imply we have no contact or experience of hatred ourselves. Performing our mind training to enhance our immune system could also be compared to learning and performing martial arts training in order to defend the self, and everything under our responsibility (like a Buddha statue) against the suffering of someone else. We move if we can but things we cannot move we have to be able to defend. We cannot move our cells from outside our body to prevent them from getting attacked but we can enhance our immune system to ensure they are well-defended.

There is no guarantee our defenses would be enough for the threats we face, as we are only able to realise the extent of what we are facing when we face it. The moment we realise the ultimate goal of mind training is preserving life itself, it is the moment we understand we have to defend not only our mind against suffering but also our live vessel against deterioration from any source.
